Has anyone tried the 08/09 PCIII usb on a 06/07 model?

I would still make sure. Ask around a bit more. Dogo is out of the ZX-14 world for now but he still will respond to a PM.....unless you feel he addressed the question directly in the thread. I think he did.
Hey, if they have 06-07 maps for the PCV, it must work. I'd ask a supplier who is a tuner like Brock or Fuel Moto. I wouldn't buy a PC from a supplier that is not a reputable tuner cause then you're stuck with dj maps.

I'm working on a PC3 as we speak. As soon as I get it I'll put it on the dyno and tune it myself.

the pc's are all interchangable the difference is in the maps a map for an 07 wont work on an 08 unless you go into the map and change the map version (for 08 is ver.302) you can see this version # when you click on open maps and it displays all your maps just left click once on a map and at the bottom right just above the notes box it will tell you what the version is for an 06(if 06 are the maps you have d/l) unless that version number is changed for the yr of bike your putting it on it will not transfer to the power commander

It doesn't matter to me where I get the PC as long as it works. I will clear out whatever map is in there, by zeroing all the boxes and then start tuning the bike.

According to the published material i researched, PCV should have the ability to cover more aspects of your motor's opperation. I guess you could say it can tune or map more intricately. I don't know how much more useful the details are. Brock seemed to feel the PCIII was just fine and he didn't recomend upgrading to a PCV.
Here's the conclusions i came up with from what I had read last winter:
1. More compact
Reduced size from PCIIIusb (less than half of the size of PCIII)
2. More Sensitive to more types of input
Gear/Speed input (allows for map adjustment based on gear and speed)
Analog input (allows user to install any 0-5 volt sensor and build an adjustment table based on its input such as boost or temperature)<<Sounds like fancy language for Autotune module here.
With gear position input connected the PCV is capable of allowing each cylinder to be mapped individually and for each gear (for example: on a 4 cylinder bike with a six speed transmission there could be up to 24 separate fuel tables).
3. More adjustable
Unit has a -100/+250% fuel change range (up from -100/+100%). This allows more adjustment range for 8 injector sportbikes PCIII has a +/-100% range <<We have 4 injectors so I do not know if this is of any value with a 14.
10 throttle position columns (up from 9 on PCIIIusb)
Enhanced “accel pump” utility (increased adjustment and sensitivity ranges)
2 position map switching function built in (map switch not included)<<The PCV will hold 2 maps. I heard the PCIII can also do this if you attach a multi-function hub.??
4. Autotune expandable
Auto Tune for PCV (all models):
“Auto Tune” kit will be available that includes Wide Band O2 sensor(s) and control box(es). It will plug directly into the PCV and allow automatic fuel adjustments. <<It does not make the adjustments, it only suggests them and from what I understand, this requires quite a bit of riding to achieve a perfected map.
Not sure if autotune can be used with the PCIII. Seems like it could be a nice feature to add on.
The PCIII maps for individual cylinders but it does not have the capability to map separately according to gear or to map according to speed.
If you buy the LCD display and connect to a PCIII, you should be able to store & switch between many maps.<< The LCD will also work with the PCV if you buy the LCD to Commander 2 Wideband Cable made by Orient Express.
The PCV does not require the bike to be running in order to load a map.
Wish I could expound on how all this stuff impacts performance but all I have done is run the maps i have been given. No adjustments of anything yet. All I can tell you is the PCV works regardless of how much you want to dink around with it and it's not all that much more money. I can see no drawbacks whatsoever with using the PCV instead of the PCIII. Only thing, you might find a cheap, used PCIII and probably not too many used PCVs out there.
